IN0001824 | 6 | | 2015 Pinot Noir Trenton Estate Vineyard | Available: | In Stock | $72.00
Sometimes a year comes along that just does not fit the mold. A committed terroirist prizes a sense of place and often feels a wine is not "proper" if it does not exhibit that. But once in a while, a wine can be so utterly delicious that this short coming is overlooked. Many of the 2015 Russian River Valley Pinot Noirs are in this category. Rich, full, and delicious now, but not really representative of the Russian River Valley to me. My belief is that the sense of place will show in time, but right now, it is overshadowed by the sheer voluptuousness of the vintage. Gorgeous aromas of red berries and cherries with a slight hind of mint. In the mouth, it is amazingly lush, with just enough acid to brighten it. Silky and full, the finish is long and smooth. I predict a bright future for this wine, but it hard to resist!

IN0001214 | 1 | | 2014 Pinot Noir Ritchie Vineyard | Available: | In Stock | $45.00
Over time our Pinot Noirs have fallen into a sort of a hierarchy. Saralee’s is usually the prettier, Trenton View is the lightest in color, Great Oak is the most masculine and backward. However the last few years Great Oak has started, probably due to vine age, to be less tannic and backward. Its place in the hierarchy seems to have been taken by Ritchie Vineyard! Dark red fruit (as opposed to berry) with hints of graphite. Red, almost plum-like. Currently more structured than apparent. With air it shows deeper red fruit and richness emerges.

IN0001229 | 2 | | 2014 Pinot Noir Solas Vineyard | Available: | In Stock | $45.00
From the steep hillside planting just to the south of our Estate vineyard. A blend of Swan and Calera selections. Our first vintage from Solas vineyard, 2014, showcases the typical Russian River Valley acidity and bright red fruit characters. Medium ruby color. Potpouri of red fruits and spice. Medium bodied, medium tannins, excellent acidity. Lush and long. Drinking well now and will appreciate with age.

IN0001783 | 16 | | 2015 Pinot Noir DNA Vineyard | Available: | In Stock | $45.00
DNA stands for our amazing growers Dennis and Andrea who so happen to be our neighbors down the street. You can wave at them if you're standing amidst Joseph Swan's estate old vines near the road! The wine from DNA fruit is more delicate than that of our estate's. We find that if you decant before serving, the wine will bring out the blood orange, tarragon, and medium red fruit characters.

IN0001823 | 17 | | 2015 Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard | Available: | In Stock | $45.00
The grapes that make this wine comes from one of the older blocks in this vineyard. The original plantings were 100% barrel fermented in French oak, aged sur lies with battonage (lees stirring) once a month. Full malolactic fermentation took place. The wine was aged 10 months in Barrel. The vineyard is highly coveted with numerous winemakers sourcing from here. Everyone gets their own dedicated row (or half as the case may be). However, not all Ritchie Vineyard wines are created equal. Throw in personal preferences with at least one winery picking 2 weeks ahead of everyone else and a couple wineries on the other end of the spectrum. Leads to some very diverse wines. We fall somewhere in the middle. Bright lemon yellow color. Ripe pear with lemon custard and a hint of mango. Classic Ritchie profile and aromatics are present. Very rich, very full opulence balanced by good acidity. Long, full fruit.

IN0001777 | 14 | | 2015 Pinot Noir Cuvee De Trois | Available: | In Stock | $42.00
The vineyards for this wine are all located in the heart of the Russian River Valley, approximately 15-18 miles from the Pacific Ocean. They represent a variety of soil types, viticultural practices and clonal selections, but each carries the overiding characteristics of the best of the Russian River Valley. The blend varies from year to year. This year it includes wine from our Trenton Estate Vineyard, Trenton View, Saralee’s, Catie’s Corner, Ritchie, Solas, and Great Oak. Very intense red, dark cherry, raspberry on the nose. Dark plum on the palate, smooth tannins, long finish. Serious wine!

Red-i-licous color, somewhere between a garnet and dark red apply. Unfined and unfiltered, so very slight haze. Nose has oodles and oodles of red guber berries (a non existent group of natural red berries) with a hint of cinnamon goodness. In the mouth it tickles you with brightness, then seduces you with richness.

IN0001259 | 4 | | 2014 Syrah Solas Vineyard | Available: | In Stock | $38.00
Our first vintage from Solas Vineyard, a neighboring vineyard on Vine Hill School Road, also known as Walker Vine Hill. This 100% syrah is made much like our other syrahs, with natural fermentaion in open top fermenters, pressed into nuetral French oak barrels and aged for just under two years. This syrah is a great example of cool climate syrah, being bright in fruit and pretty on the pallet. Beautiful magenta color. Chaulky, blueberry compote, silky tannins that grow on the finish. Still developing in the bottle, worth drinking now and aging.

IN0000928 | 7 | | 2011 Syrah Great Oak Vineyard | Available: | In Stock | $38.00
18 Months in neutral French Oak. 100% Syrah. It’s amazing how different our two syrah vineyards are from each other. They are planted to the same clone of syrah with the same spacing (3.5’x7’, tight by new world standards). And yet, they are so starkly different. The Russian River Valley is considered a cool area for growing Syrah. 2011 was an abnormally cool year by our standards. Our Syrah, both here at Trenton Estate and at Great Oak had no problem achieving normal sugar levels, but the extended season led to quite high acidity and full flavor maturity. This wine exhibits Exotic dried cherry/plum fruit with aromas of violets and cardamom and licorice. Less bacon and leather than other years. Brilliant acidity, but also rich. Great now, but should be amazing for the next 10-15 years!

Co-fermented with 5% Viognier. Aged for 18 months in neutral French oak barrels. Racy, vibrant, violet laced fruit reminiscent of French plums and licorice with a bit of kid leather. Amazing brightness to the fruit. Mouthwatering acidity brings you back for just one more sip. The depth of tannins combined with the vibrant acidity argue for a long life.

IN0001263 | 5 | | 2014 Tannat Matthews Station | Available: | In Stock | $34.00
The best know examples of wine made from an almost unknown grape are from the Madiran AOC. Madiran is in southwest France, near the Pyranees Mountains in an area referred to as Northern Basque Country. There are also large plantings in Uruguay, where it was introduced in the 1800’s by immigrants from France. In California, it was know since the 1800’s but it wasn’t until the owners of Chateau Beaucastel, in partnership with the Haas Family, established Tablas Creek Vineyards in Paso Robles that it became an accepted grape in the US. They petitioned the BATF and it was added to the list of permitted varietal names for wines in the US. There still isn’t a lot planted and very few pure tannat bottlings exist: A great year in which to make this wine. Aromas of fresh crushed black raspberries and not much more. Not much more is needed! (It is actually more complex than that but I will let you decide what the other descriptors should be!).

IN0001120 | 0 | | 2013 Zinfandel Bastoni Vineyard | Available: | In Stock | $30.00
Located in what I refer to as the Riebli Valley, just a few miles east of Highway 101, this sight has been farmed by the Bastoni family since 1906. Martha Bastoni and her husband, Russ Messanna currently farm it. Although the old vines are gone, the replants are going strong and are meticulously cared for. And even though we have only been making wine from this vineyard for three years, it exhibits what I have come to view as a classic Bastoni nose of deep blue tinged fruit, like a cross between boysenberries and blueberries. Contrasting to Russian River Valley, the east side of the valley gives the wine more of a white pepper, red fruit, and juniper berry. Good but not overwhelming tannin or acidity, and medium to full body.
